About us

We have a Soft Spot for..

We have the privilege of sharing our farms with beautiful Huacaya alpacas.

Huacaya (pronounced wah-KI-ya) is one of two breeds of alpacas, with the other being Suri (pronounced SOO-ree). Huacayas have a rounded teddy bear-like appearance with dense, crimpy fiber. Suris have long lustrous locks of fiber, giving them a unique and elegant appearance.

Alpacas are gentle and curious creatures, and produce one of the world's most luxurious natural fibers. We adore our alpacas, and we strive to keep them as healthy, happy, and stress free as possible.

We think we live in the best country in the world!

Our farms are located in the beautiful Okanagan Valley of British Columbia. The Okanagan is known for its rolling hills, clear lakes and rivers, and vast farmland and vineyards. It's a popular tourist destination year round, with skiing in the winter and lakeside recreation in the summer.

Our products are proudly made in Canada.

We believe that goods made from sustainable materials are better for the Earth and its citizens.

Alpacas need to be shorn each year for their health and comfort. If they aren't shorn they suffer from severe overheating and all the potential difficulties that may cause for their health and welfare.

Alpaca fleece has exceptional insulation properties and exceptional softness, plus it's hypoallergenic! Alpacas are low impact foragers and their fleeces are a sustainable resource, making alpaca products an eco-friendly choice.

About Soft Spot

Soft Spot is the joint effort of two alpaca farms: Yellow Star Ranch and Farrago Ranch. We met in 2016 and became friends through our shared love and respect for animals. The needs of our alpacas always come first, and we always strive to provide them with the best care and comforts. The majority of our products come from the fleeces of our loved and happy alpacas.
